Low Cost Shelters

The Low-Cost Shelters was an initiative   of Glen  Kinross RI Pres 1997-98. Glen's theme was "Show Rotary Cares - for your community,  for our world,  for its people". Since then over ten thousand  homes have  been built  in  18  countries. D9600's  most recent project was to build a cluster of Low Cos Shelters at a cost of US$2,000 each at the "Heather Kinross Rotary Shelter Village" Langalhandh,   Narayanganj,   Bangladesh and investigate the feasibility of building a dormitory at Alhaj  Amizuddin Orphanage in Bangladesh. PRIP Kalyan Banerjee has indicated  that RI is investigating sites for other Low-Cost Rotary Shelter  Projects sites."the value of the scheme goes far beyond the acquisition of buildings.  It is a life-changing experience for some of the world's most underprivileged people".   Harold Sutcliffe
