A Queensland-based person or organisation who has made a substantial contribution to peace and peace building activities, consistent with principles of non-violence.

What is the International Day of Peace (IDOP)?

The International Day of Peace (IDOP), sometimes officially known as World Peace Day, is a United Nations-sanctioned holiday observed annually on 21 September. It is dedicated to world peace, and specifically the absence of war and violence, such as might be occasioned by a temporary ceasefire in a combat zone for humanitarian aid access. The day was first celebrated in 1981, and is kept by many nations, political groups, military groups, and people

What happens here in Brisbane to mark IDOP?

Each year UNAA Q, St John’s Cathedral, WILPF, Just Peace Qld UQ, Griffith University and the Rotary Peace Centre (since 2017) host a public lecture with a focus on peace to support the International Day of Peace resolution passed in 2001. As part of this event the Rotary Peace Centre presents 2 awards recognising local agents of Peace.

Local Matters Month of June at Grill'd Everton Park (RC Mitchelton)

The Grill'd Local Matters Program has chosen Mitchelton Rotary to be one of the 3 Charities participating in their month of June fundraiser!!
